Who would have thought it; the most beautiful designs, the cleanest looking technology in the world, but unfortunately Apple products are not as green as their name might suggest! Read on to see our three big ones for Mr. Steve Jobs (Apple big cheese).

Stand up!

In the year 2000 world leaders agreed to the Millenium Development Goals (MDG's), an historic commitment to reduce poverty and inequality throughout the world by 2015. These weren't wild or un-realisitic goals, and they are still achievable with nine years to go. But now world leaders are starting to come up with excuses, they are starting to mumble and shuffle their feet, just like you might if you forget a piece of homework, or when your late to class! Read on to see Marco Tempest's (The Virtual Magician) Stand up video! And for more info on how you can get involved!

Weapon of choice

Jae stands for Justice Arts and Education and we believe that our global society is in need of a greater degree of justice. Not as an abstract concept but as a real and tangible thing.  We need a fairer world, a more peaceful and harmonious relationship with our global neighbours and a closing gap between the haves and the have nots.

Unfortunately we don't live in that world.  In our world, your life is decided by an accident of birth.   Your wage, education and life expectancy are not based on your choices, ability or hard work, they are not even necessarily based on those of your parents.  It is this deadly cycle of poverty, that holds billions in its grasp.

Fairtrade Ice cream

It has been a pretty miserable August here in rainy old London, but we did get one piece of news which helped keep the summer alive! Ben & Jerry's launched a new Fairtrade Vanilla Ice cream, that uses Fairtrade sugar and vanilla - YUM! This is the first ice cream product to carry the FAIRTRADE Mark in Europe. Ben & Jerry's make many delicious ice creams, but the Jae team give this one, 10/10 for moral fibre, we even made a corny video to go with it!

M&S Fairtrade Jeans

Check out Fairtrade jeans for the ladies from M&S. Marks and Spencer's have just brought out bootcut jeans for women that have received the Fairtrade cotton certification! Fairtrade cotton is a new initiative for the high street and M&S have been the one of the first to supply their own brand of Fairtrade cotton products (they also supply Fairtrade cotton socks and t-shirts). Like all Fairtrade products, the jeans help local farmers to invest in developing their own communities. Supplies of Fairtrade cotton are very limited at the moment, but by buying M&S Fairtrade certified cotton products you enable the farmers to invest in their businesses and grow more of it.

Tank Man

This man was captured on camera in 1989, he was standing up for his rights and the rights of his people. He stood alone, shopping in hand against a column of Chinese Type 90 tanks. Several photos and video footage was taken of the man's heroic act but to this day his identity is unknown though the sincerity of his protest continues to inspire millions to this day.

Soul Force: MK Gandhi

This was a tough read, more difficult than his autobiography “My Experiments With Truth”. The editor has done a good job and provides useful context for the writings but the layout of the book is still very difficult to plough through. As it is a compilation of Gandhi’s writing’s it the threads of the argument are not always easy to pick up.

Despite being challenging in its format the book was great and I am glad I read it, especially the chronological and situational context of the texts. Though I am not yet persuaded on non-violence. It remains to me a policy and not a creed, the challenge comes when you try to bring Gandhi’s non-violence, the non-violence of the strong, as he put it, into our world.

The Measure of a Man

It always interests me to read about the religious views and creeds that motivate the great political leaders and freedom fighters. This is an incredibly short book, I read it on the train up from Kent. With only two chapters it can fit in your back pocket.
